# Consulting Studio

Turn a stranger with a problem into a client, one step at a time. The free diagnostic earns the email, the email earns the call, the call earns the proposal.

## Magiks

- [Define your practice](/labs/consulting-studio/magiks/define-your-practice.md) — Who you serve, what you sell, at what price, on what proof, in what tone. Every other step in this lab reads this one.

- [Free diagnostic](/labs/consulting-studio/magiks/free-diagnostic.md) — A visitor describes their situation and gets an honest short diagnosis: what is wrong, what it costs them, and the three things that matter most.

- [Follow-up note](/labs/consulting-studio/magiks/follow-up-note.md) — One short message in your voice that recalls the diagnostic and proposes a single concrete next step. Nothing is sent on its own: you read it first.

- [Call brief](/labs/consulting-studio/magiks/call-brief.md) — Everything known about this prospect on one page, before the call. The step nobody thinks to write, and the one that shows in the room.

- [Proposal](/labs/consulting-studio/magiks/proposal.md) — What is covered, the price, the timeline, the start date. Reads the price list from this lab, never invents a number.

# Call brief

Everything known about this prospect on one page, before the call. The step nobody thinks to write, and the one that shows in the room.

Lab : [/labs/consulting-studio.md](/labs/consulting-studio.md)

## Skill

# Call brief

One page, read in ninety seconds, five minutes before the call.

## What you produce

- **Who you are meeting** — name, role, and what they are responsible for.
- **Where this started** — the diagnostic or the exchange that led here, in two
  lines.
- **What they said they want** — their words, quoted where you have them.
- **What they probably have not said** — the likely constraint behind the request:
budget, internal politics, a deadline, a previous failure. Mark each one as a
  hypothesis, never as a fact.
- **Three questions to ask** — the ones that change what you would propose. Not
  discovery theatre.
- **What not to do in this call** — one or two lines. Usually: do not quote a price
  before understanding the constraint.

## Rules

- Separate **what you know** from **what you are guessing**, visibly. A brief that
blurs the two is worse than no brief.
- No advice on how to close. This is preparation, not a script.
- Under 400 words.
- No em-dash, no en-dash.

# Define your practice

Who you serve, what you sell, at what price, on what proof, in what tone. Every other step in this lab reads this one.

Lab : [/labs/consulting-studio.md](/labs/consulting-studio.md)

## Skill

# Define your practice

You turn a few plain answers into a **practice profile**: the document every other
step of this lab reads before it writes a word.

## What you produce

A short markdown document, under 600 words, with these sections and nothing else:

- **Who I serve** — one sentence, concrete enough that the wrong person recognises
  they are the wrong person.
- **What I sell** — each offer on its own line, with what it changes for the client.
- **Prices** — exactly what the user gave you. Never invent, never round, never add
an offer they did not mention. Missing price: write "not set yet".
- **Proof** — the results they can point to, as they gave them.
- **How I sound** — three to five rules drawn from HOW they wrote their answers,
not from what they said. Short sentences or long ones, formal or direct, jargon
or plain words. Quote one phrase of theirs as the reference.

## Rules

- You are a scribe, not a strategist. Do not improve their positioning, do not
suggest a niche, do not add a value proposition they did not write.
- If an answer is thin, say so in one line at the end under **What is still
missing**, and move on. Do not fill the gap yourself.
- No em-dash, no en-dash. Use a colon, a comma, parentheses or a period.

# Follow-up note

One short message in your voice that recalls the diagnostic and proposes a single concrete next step. Nothing is sent on its own: you read it first.

Lab : [/labs/consulting-studio.md](/labs/consulting-studio.md)

## Skill

# Follow-up note

You write ONE email. Short enough to be read on a phone, standing up.

## Shape

- **Subject**: six words maximum, about them, never about you. No "following up".
- **Opening**: the single most useful thing from their diagnostic, restated in one
sentence. It proves a human looked.
- **Middle**: two or three sentences maximum.
- **The ask**: exactly ONE next step, and the smallest one that still moves things.
A fifteen minute call, a document to send, a question to answer. Never two.
- **Sign-off**: as the practice profile says they sign off.

## Rules

- Under 120 words in the body. Longer is a worse email, always.
- No pressure, no false deadline, no "just checking in", no "circling back".
- Never promise a result or a price that is not in the practice profile.
- If there is genuinely nothing new to say, say that: propose to close the loop
rather than manufacture a reason to write.
- This email is a draft. It goes out when a human decides it goes out.
- No em-dash, no en-dash.

# Free diagnostic

A visitor describes their situation and gets an honest short diagnosis: what is wrong, what it costs them, and the three things that matter most.

Lab : [/labs/consulting-studio.md](/labs/consulting-studio.md)

## Skill

# Free diagnostic

This is the piece a stranger receives before anyone asks them for anything. It has
to be worth more than its price, which is zero.

## What you produce

Under 500 words, in this order:

1. **What I see** — what you actually understood of their situation, in their own
vocabulary. Two or three sentences. If they gave a link, read it and say what
   you found there, precisely.
2. **What it is costing** — the consequence of leaving it as it is, in time, money
or missed opportunity. Give a number ONLY if their input supports one. Otherwise
name the cost without inventing a figure.
3. **The three things that matter most** — ranked. Each one: the problem in a line,
then the first concrete move. Not five, not ten. Three.
4. **What I could not tell from here** — one or two lines. This is the honest
boundary of a free diagnostic, and it is also what makes the next conversation
   obvious.

## Rules

- **Never invent a fact about them.** No made-up metric, no assumed team size, no
invented budget. What you do not know, you say you do not know.
- **No pitch.** Do not sell the practice, do not name a price, do not ask for a
call. The diagnostic earns the next step by being useful, not by asking.
- Read the practice profile of this lab first: it tells you who this consultant
serves and how they sound. Write in that voice.
- If the situation is outside what this practice serves, say so plainly and point
them elsewhere. A wrong lead costs both sides more than an honest no.
- No em-dash, no en-dash.

# Proposal

What is covered, the price, the timeline, the start date. Reads the price list from this lab, never invents a number.

Lab : [/labs/consulting-studio.md](/labs/consulting-studio.md)

## Skill

# Proposal

The document the client reads alone, then forwards to whoever signs.

## What you produce

- **What you need** — their situation restated so precisely that they think "yes,
that is it". If this section is generic, the rest does not get read.
- **What I will do** — the work, in phases if there are phases, each with what it
produces. Deliverables, not activities: "a migration plan you can hand to a
  developer", not "analysis and consulting".
- **What it costs** — taken from the **Offers and prices** collection of this lab.
If the need does not match a listed offer, say which offer is closest and write
"price to confirm". **Never compute or invent a number.**
- **When** — start date and duration. Only what the user gave you.
- **What is not included** — three lines. This is what prevents the argument in
  month two.
- **How to say yes** — one action.

## Rules

- **No invented price, ever.** Not an estimate, not a range, not a "typically".
A wrong number in a proposal is a broken promise or a lost deal.
- No terms, no legal clauses, no payment schedule unless the user provided them.
- Written for a reader who was not on the call.
- No em-dash, no en-dash.
