ai competitive intelligence for founders and product people

You hear about a competitor's price change from your lab, not from a customer asking why you cost more.

When did your competitor last change their price?

For your own business, or as a service you charge other businesses like yours for.

Nobody runs this lab yet. Take it, give it your hours and your prices, and it is yours.

Northline dropped the price and tightened the seats in the same edit. Read alone, the 19 euros looks like a price war. Read together, it is a repackaging.

The reading

The price is real, the discount is not. A three seat team pays 19 plus one extra seat, and their extra seat is 8 euros. That team pays 27 today against 29 before: a two euro difference, not ten.

The headline is true and the conclusion drawn from it would be false. Worth telling the sales team before a customer tells them.

What is not known

Whether existing customers keep three seats at 19. The public page does not say, and guessing it would be inventing.

The job

Competitor tracking is the work everyone decides to do and nobody does two months running. You open twelve tabs one Sunday, fill in a spreadsheet, then the week resumes and the price benchmark ages. Collection is not the hard part, regularity is: a SaaS pricing change is only worth something if you hear about it within days, not when a customer asks why you cost more. What ai competitive intelligence has to hold is the boring half, the list of who you watch and the definition of what counts as a move, which is exactly the part a browser tab does not remember.

What it would keep

Worth more in month six than in week one.

The collections belong to the lab, not to any single magik. Every magik reads them and every run adds to them, which is why this lab is worth more in month six than in week one.

Under your own brand

It wears your name, not ours.

The same lab, under your name, your colours and your logo. Your customers never see ours.

Your business
The same lab under two brands: only the logo, the address and the colour change.
Your colours, in one field.
Your logo and your favicon, on every public surface.
Your own address, on a verified domain.

On the Pro plan, and not needed to take a lab. A fully bespoke theme exists as an upgrade, hand built rather than self-serve.

What it would plug into

Web searchFirecrawlExa

And whatever you already use: any tool available through an API or an MCP server, connected with your own account.

Why not another web app built for your trade

Built around your business, not the average one.
What it knows, what it keeps and what it does are yours to write, and two businesses running the same idea end up with two different labs.
Its sources are not a closed list.
A vertical tool ships with the sources its vendor chose, and that is the ceiling. A lab can be pointed at the ones your business actually runs on, connected from your own accounts, and everything they bring back lands in your collections, which you own and can take with you.

A tool built for exactly your job, and only that, will go deeper at that one job. This is for the jobs nothing covers, or the ones spread across three tools today.

Questions · 8

Is watching a competitor pricing page legal?

Reading a page anybody can open is ordinary market watching. What this lab does not do is create accounts, get behind a login, or take anything that is not published. If the price is not public, the honest output is that there is nothing to read.

How do you actually run a competitive watch?

You name the competitors, you say what counts as a move, you set how often to look, and you read a short note. The hard part is not collecting, it is deciding in advance what deserves your attention, and that decision is written down here rather than made again every Monday.

Does it watch anything other than prices?

Whatever you name, as long as it is public and stable enough to compare: a positioning line, a plan appearing or disappearing, a page that changes what it promises. The choice is deliberately yours, because a watch that follows everything produces noise and gets read once.

How would it avoid flagging a change that is not one?

You write down what counts as a move: a listed plan price, a free tier disappearing, a threshold shifting. A page redesign that touches none of those does not surface. One magik exists for that and nothing else, which is to check before it interrupts you.

Plenty of competitors hide their pricing behind a form.

Then there is nothing to read, and the lab says so rather than estimating. What stays observable is still useful: a plan appearing, a tier moving, pricing wording that changes. A missing figure stays missing, it does not get replaced by a guess.

What does the team actually get out of it?

A table of what moved over the period, and a short note to circulate. The format is the point: a watch that produces twenty browser tabs does not get read, ten lines on a Monday morning does.

Would it alert me the minute a price changes?

No. It looks on the rhythm you set, daily or weekly, and reports at that rhythm. Nothing here reacts to an event on its own, which is deliberate: a price you learn about on Monday instead of Friday evening costs nothing, and an alert that fires at midnight gets muted.

Why this rather than a tool built for my trade?

A tool built for exactly founders and product people, and only that, will go deeper at that one job. This lab is for the jobs no tool covers, or the ones spread across three tools today, and it runs under your name.

Nobody has taken a square on this idea yet. You declare your audience when you take the lab (“roofers in Brittany”, “plumbers around Paris”), and two people can start from the same idea on two different audiences without getting in each other’s way.
