Purpose

Get detailed, expert-level feedback on your interview answers to understand what's working, what's not, and exactly how to improve. This skill analyzes your responses against proven frameworks like STAR, identifies gaps, and provides specific rewrites and coaching tips to make your answers more compelling.

When to Use

Use this Skill when you need to:

  • Get feedback on a specific interview answer you've drafted
  • Understand why an answer doesn't feel "right"
  • Improve an answer that didn't land well in a real interview
  • Refine your response before an important interview
  • Learn how to structure answers more effectively
  • Compare different versions of an answer
  • Practice with immediate, actionable feedback

Step-by-Step Process

Step 1: Capture the Answer to Analyze

Get the interview question and the user's current answer.

Ask guiding questions:

  • "What interview question are you answering?"
  • "What is your current answer? (Please share the full response you would give)"
  • "What role/industry is this for?"
  • "Is this an answer you've already used in an interview, or are you preparing it?"
  • "What concerns do you have about this answer?"

Output Variable: answer_to_analyze

Step 2: Structural Analysis

Evaluate the answer's structure against proven frameworks.

Analyze for:

STAR Structure Check:

  • [ ] Situation present and concise?
  • [ ] Task clearly defined (YOUR responsibility)?
  • [ ] Actions specific and action-verb driven?
  • [ ] Results quantified and impactful?
  • [ ] Learning/application included?

Timing Analysis:

  • Estimated speaking time
  • Balance across S-T-A-R sections
  • Sections that are too long/short

First Impression:

  • Does it hook attention in the first 7 seconds?
  • Is the opening strong?

Output Variable: structural_analysis Context Used: answer_to_analyze

Step 3: Content Analysis

Evaluate the substance and persuasiveness of the answer.

Analyze for:

Specificity:

  • Are examples concrete or vague?
  • Are there specific metrics, names, timeframes?
  • Does it feel real or generic?

Impact:

  • Is the result meaningful and relevant?
  • Does it demonstrate value to a potential employer?
  • Are there missed opportunities to show impact?

Relevance:

  • Does the answer actually address the question?
  • Is it appropriate for the role level?
  • Does it showcase relevant skills?

Red Flags:

  • Any blame-shifting or negativity?
  • Overuse of "we" instead of "I"?
  • Vague buzzwords without substance?
  • Answer too short/too long?

Output Variable: content_analysis Context Used: answer_to_analyze, structural_analysis

Step 4: Generate Improvement Recommendations

Provide specific, actionable recommendations for improvement.

Create prioritized recommendations:

Priority 1 - Critical Fixes:

  • [Most important issue to address]
  • Specific guidance on how to fix it

Priority 2 - Important Improvements:

  • [Second most important issue]
  • Specific guidance

Priority 3 - Polish:

  • [Nice-to-have improvements]
  • Specific guidance

Quick Wins:

  • Small changes that make a big difference

Output Variable: recommendations Context Used: structural_analysis, content_analysis

Step 5: Generate Improved Version

Rewrite the answer incorporating all recommendations.

Create an improved version that:

  • Addresses all critical issues
  • Maintains the user's authentic voice
  • Follows STAR structure properly
  • Includes strong opening hook
  • Has quantified results
  • Is appropriately timed (60-90 seconds)

Provide two versions:

  1. Marked-up version: Show changes with explanations
  2. Clean version: Ready to use

Output Variable: improved_answer Context Used: All previous steps

Step 6: Generate Analysis Report

Create a comprehensive feedback document.

Create a document titled "Interview Answer Analysis - [Question Summary]" with:

Analysis Summary:

  • Original Answer Score: X/10
  • Improved Answer Score: X/10
  • Key Issue: [Primary problem identified]

Structural Breakdown:

| Section | Present? | Quality | Time % | |---------|----------|---------|--------| | Situation | Yes/No | X/5 | X% | | Task | Yes/No | X/5 | X% | | Action | Yes/No | X/5 | X% | | Result | Yes/No | X/5 | X% |
